Private Appleton Estate Rum and YS Falls Tour from Montego Bay

Be amazed at the operations of the Appleton Estate, one of the oldest rums producing distillery in Jamaica. Appleton Estate is a sugar estate and distillery that has been hand crafting rums since 1749. They produce a wide variety of aged rum, as well as standard gold and white rums. Located in the heart of the country’s sugar cane belt, it is the oldest sugar estate and distillery in Jamaica. 

You will watch a short film on the history of the estate after which you will be given a live demonstration of the earliest methods of extracting the juice from the sugarcane. Then learn about the many types of sugarcanes and the cultivation and harvesting process, before sampling bits of cane, sugarcane juice and molasses, at their respective stations. Your visit to the distillation station will give insight on their unique distillation process before taking a quick walk through of the factory to see the operation in real-time. 

You will visit the barrel house where the rums are aged to perfection, before enjoying samples of three different blends, Appleton Estate Signature Blend, Reserve Blend and Rare Blend. End the day by shopping for souvenirs, craft items and enjoy a delicious local lunch (if you choose lunch option).

YS is the shortest name place in Jamaica. YS Falls is seven-tiered waterfalls which cascades over several natural pools and swimming holes. It is one of Jamaica’s best nature-based attraction, offering visitors the opportunity to experience the beauty of the waterfalls surrounded by lush gardens and magnificent trees.

Your 1 1/2-2 hours picturesque journey from Montego Bay to the YS falls will be a day well spent on a property which looks like something from a movie set. Spend your day exploring the beautiful, well-manicured grounds, the falls surrounded by lots of Flora and Fauna, huge trees, cattle, horses and more. Climb the falls and enjoy the cool fresh water flowing over the limestone rocks. Have fun rope swinging from above into the inviting waters below, swim at the bottom of one of the seven layer, relax and enjoy some time in any of the freshwater pools or go ziplining over the falls (not included in price).

Will pick you up at your hotel at the scheduled pick-up time, for your tour on the South Coast. Arriving at the Appleton Estate, you will be checked in and given you complimentary beverages before the tour guide comes to start the tour. You will be invited to watch a short documentary on the history of Appleton and the rum making process. You will then be given a live demonstration on how sugar cane was milled in earlier times.

You will walk to the sugar cane station learn about the cultivation, types of sugar cane and to sample small bits, before going to the milling station to mill your own sugar cane and sample the juice. next is the molasses station for sampling, then to the fermentation station, a quick walk through of the factory, to the aging house and finally the sampling room to sample three different brands of rum, before ending your tour in the gift shop and leave for the YS Falls.

At YS Falls, you will be given a short ride over to the falls and park on a jitney or an open aired bus. Arriving in the park, your driver/guide will show you the restrooms, changing rooms, the entrance to the falls and where to get your ride back to the main building when you are finished. You will then be left alone to enjoy your day.
